Join the Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario for the premiere of a new 45 minute film on Mennonite conscientious objectors. The Last Objectors Poster

The documentary film's tentative title is “The Last Objectors: the Story of Canada’s Conscientious Objectors of the Second World War.” It is produced by Refuge 31 Films, with the help of the Mennonite Heritage Centre in Winnipeg. The documentary will include interviews with World War II COs, as well as historians discussing the importance of their work in alternative service camps.

We hope to have someone from the film project also briefly speak at the meeting.

MHSO’s annual meeting will precede the film.

There is no admission cost and no reservations are required. A free-will offering will be held to defray expenses.

Prior or after the meeting, visit the exhibit, Conchies Speak: Ontario Mennonites in Alternative Service, 1941-1946. The conchies (as they were often called) faced challenges and frustrations as well as joys and reflections. These are echoed in the letters, diaries, photographs and recorded interviews they left behind. In the 75th anniversary year of Alternative Service, this exhibit showcases their archival records and lets the "conchies speak."
