Gertrude Bergey Bequest

In honour of her father's Mennonite heritage, Society member B. Gertrude Bergey (1920-2007) left a major bequest of over $130,000 to the Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario. The Society decided to actively spend the bequest, which has supported a diverse range of projects. As of 2023, $118,000 of the fund has been distributed. The Society is deeply gratful to Gertrude Bergey for her generous contribution to Ontario Mennonite history.

  • Mennonite Archives of Ontario​ renovation and expansion

  • Brubacher House programming

  • Honoraria for writers of biographies of prominent Ontario Mennonites for the Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online

  • The J. Winfield Fretz Special Projects Fund

  • The Indigenous-Mennonite Encounters in Time and Place conference

  • Commemorations of the War of 1812 bicentennial, Amish bicentennial and Russlaender centennial

  • Detweiler Meetinghouse​ renovations
